Falcons release cross country schedules

The University of Montevallo men’s and women’s cross country teams have released their 2012 schedules, which includes the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Championship meet.

After hosting their first home meet in program history last season, the Falcons will host three college meets and one high school and middle school meet this season. One of the three college meets is the conference championships, which will mark the first Peach Belt Conference Championship in any sport hosted on the Montevallo campus.

The Falcons open up the 2012 season at home on Aug. 31. The women’s race will begin at 6:30 p.m. while the men begin at 7 p.m. The course is located across the creek adjacent to the intramural fields.

The next morning, Sept. 1, the Falcons will host the second annual Early Bird Classic for high schools and middle schools. The schedule begins at 8 a.m. with the middle school girls race. The middle school boys follow at 8:40 a.m., while the Class 4A-6A girls start at 9:20 a.m. The Class 4A-6A boys follow at 10 a.m. The Class 1A-3A girls are at 10:40 a.m. and the Class 1A-3A boys end the event at 11:10 a.m.

Montevallo will then travel up Interstate 65 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville for the Fleet Feet Sports/Earl Jacoby Memorial on Sept. 8. The men’s race begins at 9 a.m., while the women take off at 9:45 a.m.

The Falcons return home Sept. 22 for the Falcon Classic. The men kick off the action at 8 a.m., while the women begin at 8:45 a.m.

Just a few weeks later on Oct. 6 the Falcons will travel to Orlando, Fla. for the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic. The men’s race begins at 6:45 a.m., while the women begin at 7:30 a.m.

The final home race of the season comes Oct. 20 as the Falcons welcome the Peach Belt Conference members to town. The Falcons will welcome nine men’s teams and 11 women’s teams to campus.

The men get things started at 10 a.m., while the women follow at 10:45 a.m. The Montevallo women will be looking to defend their 2011 conference championship and senior Haley Evans returns as the defending individual champion.

The final race on the schedule is the NCAA Southeast Region Championship on Nov. 3 in Charlotte, N.C.
