A Shelby County non-profit is adding to the reward in the Montevallo dog-skinning case.

Two by Two Animal Rescue in Helena is a non-profit with a “wonderful base of donors and volunteers,” executive director Sonya Smith said.

After hearing about the pug that was skinned alive in Montevallo May 25, a Birmingham couple who donates regularly to Two by Two decided to put up a $500 reward.

“They wanted to extend money on that behalf because the story has pricked all of our hearts,” Smith said.

The independent non-profit works to keep dogs off the streets of Helena, and has put dogs from Helena into homes in 23 states across the country, according to Smith.

“We’re fine giving it if there’s an arrest made,” Smith said of the reward. “We do believe this created enough attention and outrage that someone will be convicted. We feel like it’s a victory if it’s found out who’s responsible.”
