High school basketball roundup: Spain Park tops Sylacauga in tournament semifinals

The Spain Park High School boys’ basketball team defeated Sylacauga 64-51 in the Big Orange Classic semifinals Dec. 28 at Hoover High School.
Robby Prater and Rembert Martin led the Jaguars (12-5) with 12 points each.
Bryan Stone added 11 points.
Briarwood Christian downs Alexandria in tournament opener
The Briarwood Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated Alexandria 61-49 in its Oneonta Christmas tournament opener Dec. 28.
Jason Laatsch led the Lions (12-3) with a game-high 26 points.
Justin Bice added 12 points in the victory.
Chelsea falls in tournament opener
The Chelsea High School boys’ basketball team fell to Newman (La.) 46-33 in the opening round of the Saraland Christmas tournament Dec. 28.
D.D. Washington and Jake Ganus led the Hornets (8-6) with 11 points each.
Shelby County tops Bibb County in tournament semifinals
The Shelby County High School boys’ basketball team defeated Bibb County 74-56 in the Champion Sports Medicine Shootout semifinals Dec. 28.
Ty Lollar led the Wildcats (5-8) with a game-high 32 points.
Tyler Madison added 23 points and 11 rebounds. Tre Cohill chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Montevallo defeats Chilton County in tournament
The Montevallo High School boys’ basketball team defeated Chilton County 55-44 in a consolation game Dec. 28 at the Champion Sports Medicine Shootout.
Garrius Chappell led the Bulldogs (3-7) with 15 points.
Rashad Jones added 14 points. Demetrouse Conwell chipped in 10 points.
Vincent falls to Clay-Chalkville in tournament semifinals
The Vincent High School boys’ basketball team fell to Clay-Chalkville 62-50 in the Springville Christmas tournament semifinals Dec. 28.
Keyon Wallace led the Yellow Jackets (11-5) with 18 points. Wallace also grabbed 10 rebounds.
Ben McKinney added nine points. Bruce Hamilton contributed eight points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Coosa Valley falls to Tuscaloosa Academy in tournament
The Coosa Valley Academy boys’ basketball team fell to Tuscaloosa Academy 38-35 in a consolation game at the Huntingdon Christmas tournament Dec. 28.
Hunter Winslett led the Rebels (2-9) with eight points. John Bullen added seven points.
Winslett also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Spain Park falls to Madison Academy in tournament
The Spain Park High School girls’ basketball team fell to Madison Academy 60-45 in the Decatur Orthopaedic Classic semifinals Dec. 28.
Katherine Boswell and Jessica Freeman led the Jaguars (11-6) with 10 points each.
Tori Morgan added eight points and eight rebounds.
Vincent falls to Winterboro in tournament
The Vincent High School girls’ basketball team fell to host Winterboro 50-37 in the Winterboro Christmas tournament Dec. 28.
Brooklyn Jones led Vincent (6-9) with 12 points.
Kiara Cohill added 11 points. Pamala Mann chipped in 10 points.
Coosa Valley falls to Edgewood Academy in tournament semifinal
The Coosa Valley Academy girls’ basketball team fell to Edgewood Academy 48-29 in the semifinals of the Huntingdon Christmas tournament Dec. 28.
Lauren Archer led the Rebels (8-2) with 14 points. Archer also grabbed eight rebounds.
Terrie Sprayberry added six points. Amelia Ripley chipped in five points. Kaylan Rich grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Samantha Baker recorded five steals.
