County Commissioner Dan Acker Sr. is home recovering after he suffered a stoke on Friday, June 15.

“I’m doing pretty good. I did have a stroke, but it only affected my vision,” Acker said on Wednesday, June 20. “I can see half out of each eye, which is hard to get things focused.”

Daniel Acker.

Acker, 75, said after he woke up on the morning of June 15, he knew something wasn’t right. He called fellow County Commissioner Robbie Hayes and said he needed to go to the Eye Foundation in Birmingham.

“They said there was nothing wrong with my eyes, so it was a stroke in the back of my head that affected my eyes. My eyes are 20/20 that I can see out of,” he said.

Acker said it will take time to recover, but he will continue his county leadership position unhindered.

“I will be able to carry out my duties and be at meetings and do what is required of me,” he said.
