Sheriff’s deputies make arrest after car chase, foot pursuit

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men suspected of breaking and entering vehicles in the Chelsea area Dec. 17.

At around 2 a.m. Dec. 17, sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of suspicious persons in the 2200 block of Forest Lakes Lane in Sterrett.

When deputies arrived, they saw a suspicious vehicle leaving the neighborhood and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle’s occupants refused to stop, and led the deputies on a vehicle chase out near Shelby County 25 and Tunnel Road in the Dunnavant area.

The occupants fled from the vehicle on foot and were later detained by Leeds police. Several items stolen from vehicles in the Forest Lakes subdivision were recovered.

O'Neal

Irondale resident Paul Gilbert Hinkle Jr., 22, was charged with four counts of unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle and one count of receiving stolen property. He is in the Shelby County Jail on $90,000 total bond.

Collin Christopher O’Neal, 22, of Birmingham was arrested on an outstanding probation violation warrant. His bond is currently $500, but he has warrants pending for unlawful breaking and entering and receiving stolen property. He is in the Shelby County Jail.
