Eight standouts playing in ABCA all-star event

Eight high school baseball standouts from Shelby County are competing in the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Showcase all-star event at Troy University on June 19-21.
The Showcase includes six teams, which will face off in one game each day in a round-robin format. College coaches and professional scouts were in attendance to recruit and evaluate the state’s top players.
Six of the players from Shelby County played for the Forrest Green team in the Showcase, which featured the top rising sophomore, junior and senior high school baseball players from across the state.
The Forrest Green team includes Briarwood Christian pitcher Barnes Bankston, Oak Mountain pitcher/outfielder Chandler Clower, Pelham infielder Sam Finnerty, Oak Mountain infielder Connor O’Brien, Oak Mountain outfielder Heath Quinn and Thompson pitcher/infielder Hunter Rigney.
The Forrest Green team will be coached by Shelton State coach Brett Kimbrel.
The Navy Blue roster includes Oak Mountain pitcher Justin Hoyt and Pelham catcher Hunter Stovall. The Navy Blue team will be coached by Calhoun State coach Joey Holcomb.
The Showcase will also include a player/parent banquet on June 19, with team workouts and camp activities scheduled as well as the round-robin games on June 20-21.
