The Briarwood Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Chelsea 46-34 in the opening round of the Shelby County tournament Dec. 17.

Cara Medders led the Lions (11-3) with a game-high 17 points.

Abbie Cutcliffe added nine points and six steals. Anna Handlin chipped in six points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Allie Luster and Amanda Mock led Chelsea (3-8) with nine points each.

Sarah Holliday chipped in four points.

Vincent defeats Calera

The Vincent High School girls’ basketball team defeated Calera in the opening round of the Shelby County tournament Dec. 17.

Kiara Cohill led the Yellow Jackets (6-7) with 29 points.

Brooklyn Jones added 14 points. Pamala Mann contributed eight points.

Jennifer Hobby led Calera (0-6) with 12 points.

A’Kia Harris and Jocelyn Davis contributed eight points each.

Kingwood Christian falls to Hooper Academy

The Kingwood Christian School girls’ basketball team fell to Hooper Academy 39-37 on Dec. 17.

Blair Holsombeck, who finished 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, led the Lions (4-9) with 12 points. Holsombeck also dished out four assists.

Whitney Gillespie contributed 11 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.

Coosa Valley defeats Springwood Academy

The Coosa Valley Academy girls’ basketball team defeated Springwood Academy 57-32 on Dec. 17.

Lauren Archer led the Rebels (6-1) with 17 points. Archer also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and dished out six assists.

Jordan Smiley added 13 points and eight rebounds. Amelia Ripley finished with 10 points.

Hope Christian falls to Evangel Family

The Hope Christian School girls’ basketball team fell to Evangel Family Christian Academy 40-35 in an Alabama Christian Sports Conference game Dec. 17.

Christina Jones led the Eagles (6-3 overall, 2-2 in ACSC) with 16 points in the loss. Jones also recorded a team-high five steals.

Davina Drew and Leigh Wilson-Legg added six points each. Wilson-Legg finished with four steals.

Chelsea tops Montevallo

The Chelsea High School boys’ basketball team defeated Montevallo 43-38 in the opening round of the Shelby County tournament Dec. 17.

D.D. Washington led Chelsea (8-4) with 20 points.

Jake Ganus added 10 points.

Demetrouse Conwell led Montevallo (2-5) with 14 points.

Garrius Chappell and Anthony Whitehead added nine points each.

Westminster falls to Jemison

The Westminster School at Oak Mountain boys’ basketball team fell to Jemison 60-44 on Dec. 17.

Jeffrey Stanford led the Knights (6-7) with 18 points.

Jake Doggett added 15 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots.

Wellford Moore and Richard Robey chipped in four points each. Robey grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Adam Gurley, who finished with three points, recorded six steals.

Kingwood Christian falls to Hooper Academy

The Kingwood Christian School boys’ basketball team fell to visiting Hooper Academy 52-39 on Dec. 17.

Madison Webb and Charles Pope led the Lions (8-6) with 12 points each.

Coosa Valley falls to Springwood Academy

The Coosa Valley Academy boys’ basketball team fell to Springwood Academy 54-41 on Dec. 17.

Hunter Winslett led the Rebels (2-6) with 12 points.

John Bullen added 10 points.

Cornerstone Christian falls to Bessemer Academy

The Cornerstone Christian School boys’ basketball team fell to Bessemer Academy 50-48 in the opening round of the Autauga Academy tournament Dec. 17.

Kendall Moore led the Chargers (0-8) with 20 points. Moore also grabbed 12 rebounds.

Blake Odgers added 15 points and five rebounds.

Hope Christian falls to Evangel Family

The Hope Christian School boys’ basketball team fell to Evangel Family Christian Academy 79-63 in an Alabama Christian Sports Conference game Dec. 17.

Blake Thomas led the Eagles (4-6 overall, 2-5 in ACSC) with 18 points.

Terrence Moore added 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Seth Burnham contributed 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Caleb Douglas and Cameron Costa chipped in six points each. Douglas dished out a team-high five assists.
