High school basketball roundup: Kingwood Christian tops Cornerstone Christian

The Kingwood Christian School boys’ basketball team jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 66-54 win over visiting Cornerstone Christian School in Alabama Independent Schools Association basketball action Dec. 6.

Kingwood led 17-7 after the first quarter and outscored the Chargers by three points in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Daniel Fillingim led the Lions (4-4) with 16 points.

Charles Pope and Madison Webb added 13 points each. Jordan Myers contributed 11 points.

Kendall Moore led Cornerstone (0-5) with 24 points.

Blake Odgers added 12 points.

Chelsea defeats Montevallo

The Chelsea High School boys’ basketball team defeated Montevallo 58-40 on Dec. 6.

D.D. Washington led the Hornets (5-2) with 14 points. Washington also grabbed 11 rebounds.

D.J. Washington added 12 points. Jake Ganus chipped in 10 points and four assists.

Anthony Whitehead led Montevallo (0-2) with 11 points.

Westminster picks up win over Fultondale

The Westminster School at Oak Mountain boys’ basketball team picked up a 77-64 win over Fultondale on Dec. 6.

Jake Doggett led the Knights (4-4) with 28 points. Doggett nearly recorded a triple-double as he finished with nine rebounds and eight blocked shots.

Jeffrey Stanford added 15 points. Adam Gurley chipped in 14 points.

Coosa Valley downs Lyman Ward

The Coosa Valley Academy boys’ basketball team defeated Lyman Ward 64-53 in an AISA Class 1A Region 2, Area 1 contest Dec. 6.

Austin Rich and Sam Bullard led the Rebels (2-3 overall, 1-0 in AISA Class 1A Region 2, Area 1) with 13 points each.

Hunter Winslett added 12 points. Saxxon Grimes chipped in 10 points.

GIRLS

Pelham falls to Clay-Chalkville

The Pelham High School girls’ basketball team fell to Clay-Chalkville, 63-35, in high school basketball action Dec. 6.

Erin Whitman led the Panthers (1-5) with 13 points.

Cornerstone defeats Kingwood

The Cornerstone Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Kingwood Christian 37-25 on Dec. 6.

Jana Armstrong and Destiny Dillard led the Chargers with 10 points each.
