HOOVER — A Blountsville contractor has been arrested in connection with thefts from the Riverchase United Methodist Church in Hoover.

State Attorney General Luther Strange announced in a press release that Chad Evans Huffstutler, 36, was arrested May 29 for the thefts.

A Shelby County grand jury indicted Huffstutler May 9 on one count of first-degree theft of property valued at more than $2,500, one count of first-degree theft by deception of property valued at more than $2,500, and two counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument, one of which was a performance bond and one of which was a payment bond, according to the press release. The total bond for all charges is $50,000.

Huffstutler posted bond and was released May 29. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of two to 20 years for each count of first-degree theft and one to 10 years for each count of second-degree possession of a forged instrument.

Strange said the investigation is ongoing.
