UM names new dean of the College of Business

MONTEVALLO — The University of Montevallo has named Dr. Stephen H. Craft as the new dean of the Michael E. Stephens College of Business.
Craft will begin his tenure Jan. 1, 2011.
Craft is currently the dean of business programs at Birmingham-Southern College. At BSC, he is also chair of the business and accounting department and the Elton B. Stephens professor of marketing.
Before going to BSC, he was a faculty member in the Towson University College of Business and the George Washington University School of Business and Public Management.
Craft is a graduate of BSC, where he received a bachelor’s degree in economics and business adminstration. He then received an MBA in marketing and a doctorate in marketing and globalization at George Washington University.
Before Craft began his career as an educator, he worked as a marketing strategy manager and product manager at Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp., a senior product manager at First American Bancshares and a marketing analyst at SouthTrust Bank.
He has served on the boards of the American Red Cross and Media for Health. He is also a member of the Birmingham Business Alliance Council of Economic Advisors, the Birmingham Business Journal editorial advisory board and the Rotary Club of Birmingham.
Craft is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Birmingham and a 2006 graduate of Leadership Vestavia Hills. He has served on the executive board of the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce, and has served as president of the Birmingham chapters of the American Marketing Association and the Board of American Advertising Federation.
Craft is also a fellow of the Academy of Marketing Science, a member of the European Marketing Academy and the Society for Marketing Advances and is an American Marketing Association professional certified marketer.
