Give thanks, help for our local families

Since Shelby County is the most affluent county in the state, it’s so easy to forget that even here, there are plenty of people who go hungry every day.
In order for those people to have a happy holiday season instead of a hungry one, your compassion is needed.
As you’re shopping for your Thanksgiving turkey with all the trimmings, take a moment to think of those in our county who won’t be able to have a Thanksgiving without a little help.
For charities that feed and clothe those in need, this is the busiest time of year. It’s getting colder outside, and needy families are looking for extra clothing, extra food and, many times, a warm place to sleep.
Pick up a few extra cans of vegetables or cranberry sauce, and drop those cans off at your local food bank, Salvation Army or other charity helping to feed the needy this holiday season.
Or, if you’ve got some clothes you don’t wear anymore or coats sitting in the back of your closet, pack those into a few bags and drop them off too.
Think of it this way: you can help your fellow man while also getting a head start on your spring cleaning. It’s a win-win situation for all concerned.
