Oak Mountain tops Thompson in playoff opener

NORTH SHELBY — The Oak Mountain High School boys’ soccer team defeated Thompson 7-1 in the opening round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A playoffs April 28.
Gray Johnston led the Eagles with three goals in the victory.
Chandler Stroupe, Brandt Mace, David DePriest and Ryan Hall added one goal each in the win.
Johnny Torres scored the lone goal for the Warriors in the match.
Johnston and Stroupe scored a goal each within a one-minute span early in the first half to give Oak Mountain a 2-0 lead.
Johnston added his second goal with 20:27 left in the opening half and the Eagles carried a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Johnston’s third goal gave Oak Mountain a 4-0 lead less than two minutes into the second half.
Torres netted the Warriors’ lone goal with 25:48 remaining before Mace, DePriest and Hall capped the scoring for the Eagles.
