Warriors win three matches in state tournament

The Thompson High School girls’ tennis team won three matches in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A state tournament April 27.
Erin Hutter led the Warriors after recording Thompson’s lone victory in a singles’ match. The Warriors racked up 8 points and finished 14th in team standings in the state tournament.
Hutter defeated Kristen Chambliss of Prattville 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round of the No. 2 singles’ bracket before falling to Avery King of Vestavia Hills 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Hutter teamed up with Maria Siow in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Taylor Lewis and Meredith Gwin of Daphne in the opening round of the No. 1 doubles’ bracket. Hutter and Siow fell to Kelsey Coots and Katherine Walker 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
Laura Harwell and Victoria Killingsworth of Thompson defeated Helen Ann Cornell and Meredith Cazales of McGill-Toolen 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round of the No. 2 doubles’ bracket before falling to Mary Caitlyn Wilhite and Maani Kamal of Northridge 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
Harwell fell to Brooke Blackmon of Northridge 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles’ bracket quarterfinals. Killingsworth fell to Madison Walding of Northridge 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles’ bracket opening round.
Siow fell to Hannah Shunnarah of Vestavia Hills 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round of the No. 4 singles’ bracket. Olivia Sorrell of Thompson fell to Hannah Cox of Enterprise 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles’ bracket opening round.
Anna Conn of Thompson fell to Kasey Walsh of Fairhope 6-3, 6-1 in the opening round in the No. 6 singles’ bracket.
Sorrell and Conn fell to Bree Beckwith and Bailey Bentley of Huntsville 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round in the No. 3 doubles’ bracket.
