Tashia Fleming is a second grade teacher at Calera Elementary School.
Each year Mrs. Fleming’s Flamingos do a tribute to honor the victims, family and community leaders of Sept. 11, 2001.
The Flamingos design an American flag with their handprints and call the project “The Hands of Love Project.” The Hands of Love Flag allows the community and parents to come together and share love and memories.
During this project the class also chooses community heroes or leaders to pay tribute to.
This year Fleming’s class honored the Calera Fire and Police Departments with cards, treats and the students made them a smaller version of the flag using a pillowcase.
