Lions sweep Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa in doubleheader

The Briarwood Christian School baseball team swept Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa in a high school baseball doubleheader April 7.
The Lions (20-6) defeated Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 6-0 in the opener.
Matthew Furuto led Briarwood Christian offensively as he finished 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run.
Carter Tyra, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 1-for-2 at the plate. Daniel Robert, who drove in two runs and scored one run, finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Ben Craft went 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run.
Ethan Simmons finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Tanner Cunningham, who drove in one run and scored one run, finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Kevin McKelvey finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Brayden Housel went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored one run. Will Dyson and Cole Pearson scored one run each.
Cameron Adams earned the win on the mound after giving up just five hits with one strikeout and one walk in five scoreless innings.
Jake Bracewell allowed just one hit with two strikeouts in three innings in relief.
Briarwood Christian topped Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 9-3 in the nightcap.
Simmons led the Lions offensively as he finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Simmons drove in one run and scored two runs.
Furuto finished 2-for-3 at the plate and scored one run. Tyra, who drove in two runs and scored one run, went 1-for-3 at the plate. Robert, who drove in one run and scored one run, finished 1-for-5 at the plate with a homer. Craft, who drove in one run and scored two runs, finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a homer. Cunningham, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 1-for-4 at the plate with a double. Pearson scored one run.
Will Brown earned the win on the mound after giving up three earned runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and six walks in a complete-game victory.
