COLUMBIANA — For the second year in a row, Coosa Valley Academy and Cornerstone Christian School will face off in a one-game playoff April 10 to determine the Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A, Area 1 champion following the Chargers’ 6-4 win over the Rebels, which meant a split in two regular season meetings between the rivals.
Cornerstone Christian coach Tim Smith said he saw the one-game playoff, which will be held April 10, coming.
“We’ve had two great baseball games,” Smith said. “Tuesday will be another good one.”
Tim Warren led the Chargers offensively as he finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Warren drove in one run and scored one run in the win.
Auston Wingard finished 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run. Chase Payne and Clayton Halbert each finished with one hit, one run scored and one RBI. Adrian Young and Dalton Lodge scored one run each.
Austin Davis earned the win after giving up four runs, including three earned runs, on seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks in six innings. Hagan Joiner closed out the game and recorded a save.
Michael Mims led Coosa Valley offensively as he finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and a pair of walks.
Allen Logan, who finished with two strikeouts, took the loss after giving up six runs.
“We just left too many runners on base,” said Coosa Valley coach Bobby Hughes.
