Bulldogs sweep Hale County in doubleheader

The Montevallo High School baseball team swept Hale County to clinch the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 3A, Area 7 regular season title following a doubleheader April 5.
“We’ve got a great group of kids,” said Montevallo coach Trey Simpson. “They’ve gone above and beyond.”
The Bulldogs (21-4 overall, 5-0 in Class 3A, Area 7) defeated Hale County 14-3 in the opener.
Chase Hamrick led Montevallo offensively as he finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Hamrick drove in two runs and scored two runs in the victory.
Taylor Burr, who drove in four runs and scored one run, finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.
Burr also earned the win on the mound after giving up three runs, including two earned runs, on six hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in a five-inning complete-game victory.
Montevallo topped Hale County 11-2 in the nightcap.
Zach Smith led the Bulldogs offensively as he finished 3-for-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Smith drove in four runs in the victory.
Simpson said his team isn’t satisfied with the area championship.
“We’re not content with just winning the area,” Simpson said.
