Shelby County tops rival Chelsea in area play

Shelby County 79, Chelsea 51
Jordan Simon led the Wildcats (10-3, 1-0 in Class 5A, Area 8) with 25 points. Tae Lewis added 13 points. Kevin McNorton finished with 11 points and Ty Lollar chipped in 10 points. Jake Ganus led Chelsea with 18 points. D.D. Washington added 15 points.
Thompson 70, Vincent 55
Josh Neville led Thompson (8-12) with 22 points. Kenny Johnson added 21 points. Ben McKinney led Vincent with 23 points.
Cornerstone Christian 70, Coosa Valley 54
J.V. McKinney led the Chargers (11-0, 9-0 in AISA Class 1A, Region 1) with 31 points and six steals. Kendall Moore added 18 points and eight rebounds. Stephen Bulger chipped in 11 points and five rebounds. Gage Holmes led the Rebels with 18 points. Zaid Kayyali added 12 points. John Bullen chipped in 11 points.
“We’re playing pretty well right now,” said Cornerstone coach Tim Smith.
John Carroll 40, Briarwood Christian 38
Jason Laatsch led the Lions with 11 points.
Evangel Christian 69, Tuscaloosa Home Educators 60 (OT)
J.R. Coronado led the Lightning (7-2) with 27 points and 24 rebounds. Mauricio Collante added 21 points.
GIRLS
Chelsea 37, Shelby County 31
Amanda Mock led the Hornets (8-10, 2-0 in Class 5A, Area 8) with 10 points. Aulicia Nunn led Shelby County (7-6, 0-1) with 11 points. Alysia Perkins added nine points.
Cornerstone Christian 35, Coosa Valley 20
Kailey Goodwin led the Chargers (10-1, 8-1 in AISA Class 1A, Region 1) with 14 points. Lauren Archer led Coosa Valley with eight points.
Hoover 82, Spain Park 28
Kelsie Williams led the Jaguars (6-14, 1-3) with 11 points. Jessica Freeman added five points.
Briarwood Christian 51, John Carroll 40
Julia Hoke led the Lions (7-8, 1-1 in Class 5A, Area 8) with 15 points. Anna Handlin added 12 points.
Calera 50, Jemison 35
A’Kia Harris led the Eagles with 17 points as Calera picked up its first win of the season. Kendra Holmes added 10 points. Jocyln Davis and Jennifer Hobby chipped in nine points each.
“We have been working very hard to get better each day,” said Calera coach James Knowles. “It was nice for the girls to get some reward for all their hard work.”
Montevallo 58, Marbury 33
Amber Cardwell led the Bulldogs with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Savanna Smith added 12 points, seven assists and six steals. Shanise Hudson contributed eight points and seven rebounds.
Evangel Christian 60, Tuscaloosa Home Educators 15
Taylor Grammer led the Lightning (9-0) with 16 points. Abby Letson added 14 points. Mary Kathryn Sawyer finished with 13 points and Rainey Ketcham chipped in 10 points.
