Timberline Golf Club is the setting for Calera Chamber of Commerce’s eighth-annual golf tournament. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25. Registration and lunch begins at noon.

“We are really excited about this year’s tournament,” Gail Blankenship, executive director, said. “Our goal is to have 15 teams. At this time, Oct. 7, we have 10 teams and have raised $5,000, in sponsorships.”

Sponsorships offered are: Individual $100, team sponsor $400, hole sponsor $150 and team and hole sponsor $500.

There is a special par 3-hole sponsorship for $500.

At each par 3, sponsors can set up a tent and hand out non-alcoholic beverages and their business information.

Also offered are range and lunch sponsorships for $250 each and in memory sponsorships for $100 each.

Registration forms are available at Timberline Golf Club, Allstate Insurance- Griffin-Turner Agency, State Farm Insurance, ALFA Insurance, First United Security Bank, Alabama Power, Barbara’s Candles, Connell’s Pest Control, Waterford Club House and Calera Chamber of Commerce office.

The chamber raises money to promote community affairs such as ribbon cuttings, educational scholarships, the annual Calera Christmas Parade and the 2011 Spring Festival.

This year’s parade theme is “Wrap up a Magical Christmas” and will be held Saturday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m.

Blankenship is equally excited about the 2011 Spring Festival.

“We will be working with city officials for a convenient date and safe location to host the event,” she said.

More information about the event will be made available in the coming months.

Blankenship and Myra Moore, executive assistant, have been “pounding the pavement” for several months to renew relations between the community and businesses.

In the past month, they have signed up 12 members — a mixture of new and existing businesses.

“Every city needs an active chamber in order to grow effectively,” Blankenship said. “We are committed to growing the business community along with residential growth.”
