Hornets win Metro tournament title

The Chelsea High School girls’ soccer team defeated Homewood 1-0 in the Birmingham Metro “B” Division tournament championship game March 31 at Spain Park High School.
Britne Holderby scored the game-winning goal on an assist from Perri Lambert with 2:50 remaining in the match.
Chelsea goalkeeper Ashleigh Niven recorded six saves in the match. Holderby and Niven were each named to the all-tournament team.
Chelsea defeated Altamont 2-1 in the semifinal round March 31.
Holderby scored the Hornets’ lone goal in regulation on an assist by Anna Pifer. Chelse took the match following a 4-2 advantage in the penalty-kick round.
