Falcons drop tennis match against North Georgia

The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team fell on the road March 28 at Peach Belt Conference rival North Georgia College and State University 9-0.

The Falcons battled in every match but had to forfeit a pair of matches due to not having enough healthy athletes. The Falcons fell behind 2-0 after having to forfeit both the No. 3 doubles’ match and the No. 6 singles’ match.

Senior Helene Nordgreen and junior Lauren Blair teamed up in the No. 1 doubles’ match and fell by the slimmest of margins, 8-6.

Junior Amy McGucken and freshman Meagan Stevens, a Hope Christian School graduate, teamed up in the No. 2 doubles’ match and fell 8-1, which put the Falcons behind 4-0 heading into singles.

The No. 5 singles’ match was 6-1, 6-1 in favor of the Saints, which sealed the victory for North Georgia as it went up 5-0. Stevens put up a fight in the No. 3 singles’ match as she fell 7-5 and 6-2. Nordgreen fell in the No. 1 singles’ match 6-4, 6-2, while Blair lost in the No. 2 singles’ match 6-3, 6-2. McGucken fell in the No. 4 singles’ match 6-2, 6-3.

The Falcons will look to get back on track Friday, March 30 at 3 p.m. as they host Georgia Southwestern State University.
