FROM STAFF REPORTS
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested a Hoover man who allegedly used illegal business practices to swindle investors and homeowners in mortgage and real estate deals.
On March 21, investigators received a complaint that Hoover resident Kevin Jerome Brown, 41, was using deceptive and fraudulent business practices. Sheriff’s investigators discovered that there may be a number of local victims and alerted the Alabama Securities Commission, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s office.
Investigators served a search warrant on March 22 at a residence in the 4000 block of Milner Road, which is in the Greystone Farms neighborhood, and seized evidence in this case, the release read.
Brown has subsequently been charged with Theft by Deception first degree with a bond of $30,000 and Resisting Arrest with a bond of $500. Brown remains in the Shelby County Jail, according to the release.
Investigators believe that Brown has produced fraudulent promissory notes, created fictitious real estate opportunities and issued fake land titles that may have targeted retired and senior citizens, according to the release.
