Local Crimson Tide fans will get a chance to celebrate the team’s past and present gridiron champions Aug. 10 while raising money for area teens.
The Shelby County University of Alabama Alumni Association will host its “Celebrate the Champions” event at the Pelham Towne Center off Interstate 65 exit 242 to generate excitement for the upcoming football season while helping Shelby County’s high school students.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. and feature Big Al, the University of Alabama cheerleaders and Tide players Eryk Anders, Antonio Langham, Todd Bates, Pelham High School graduate Tyler Watts and more.
During the event, University of Alabama Athletic Director Mal Moore will speak about the Crimson Tide’s upcoming season, and will be on hand to greet fans alongside the former Alabama players.
The alumni association will raffle off a Nick Saban-autographed national championship football, and all proceeds from the raffle will be used to fund scholarships for University of Alabama-bound Shelby County students.
“All the money we raise through that will go toward scholarships for our local students,” said Lori Stamper, a member of the association’s executive committee. “It’s a free event, and it is going to be a great time.”
The WJOX and 97.7 The Peach radio stations will be broadcasting live from the event, and Bama Fever and the Beveled Edge will be selling a plethora of Alabama gear and artwork.
