High school cross country roundup: Spain Park runner finishes third in premier race at Showdown

Spain Park High School runner Brandon Hazouri finished third overall in the boys’ All-American 5K Championship race Oct. 9 during the Southeast Cross Country Showdown at Veterans Park in Hoover.
Hazouri posted a time of 16:38.06, which put him just under seven seconds behind the race winner.
The Jaguars’ team entry in the boys’ All-American Championship race finished 12th in team standings. Steven Crain of Spain Park finished 24th overall in individual standings with his time of 17:24.06.
The Spain Park girls finished ninth in team standings in the girls’ All-American Championship race.
Kristen Spence led the Jaguars as she finished 24th overall in individual standings with her time of 20:52.69. Madeline Held came in 29th overall in individual standings with her time of 21:03.01.
The Pelham boys finished second in the boys’ Large School 5K race team standings. Mason Webber led the Panthers as he finished fifth in individual standings with his time of 19:38.28. Will Givan came in 10th overall with his time of 20:37.29.
The Thompson boys finished fourth in the boys’ Large School 5K race team standings. Michael Johnson led the Warriors with his time of 19:11.30, which put him fourth overall in individual standings. Thompson runners Drew Nix and Jordan Smith finished seventh and eighth overall, respectively. Nix recorded a time of 20:00.42 and Smith crossed the finish line in 20:05.32.
Pelham finished fourth in the girls’ Large School 5K race team standings. Brianna Gunn led the Panthers as she finished fourth overall in individual standings with her time of 22:22.59. Erin Landa of Pelham finished fifth overall with her time of 22:33.92.
Thompson came in fifth in the girls’ Large School 5K race team standings. Anna Puckett led the Warriors as she finished sixth overall with her time of 22:51.34.
Former Pelham standout Lauren D’Alessio, who is a sophomore at Samford University, finished third overall in the Bulldogs’ 5K Invitational at the Showdown with her time of 18:06.28.
Oak Mountain boys finish fourth at Dew It On The Trails
The Oak Mountain High School boys cross country team finished fourth in team standings at the Dew It On The Trails 5K race Oct. 9 at Point Mallard Park in Decatur.
Travis Rocha led the Eagles as he finished 16th overall in individual standings with his time of 17:15.50. Caleb Mintz of Oak Mountain came in 26th overall with his time of 17:43.70.
The Shelby County boys finished 22nd in the Dew It On The Trails boys’ team standings. Wally Morris led the Wildcats as he finished 196th overall in individual standings with his time of 20:52.20.
Shelby County freshman Jacqueline Head, running as an individual, finished sixth overall in the Dew It On The Trails 5K girls’ individual standings with her time of 18:52.70.
Oak Mountain’s Heather Comensky, also running as an individual, finished 40th overall with her time of 21:03.80.
Vincent runners compete at Yellow Jacket Invitational
Ben Alexander of Vincent finished 63rd overall in individual standings Oct. 9 in the fourth annual Yellow Jacket Invitational at Oxford High School.
Running as an individual, Alexander completed the boys’ 5K race in 21:33.53.
Arlena Grier of Vincent finished 54th overall in individual standings in the Invitational 5K girls’ race with her time of 26:45.46.
