Falcons drop series against Armstrong Atlantic

The University of Montevallo baseball team dropped two out of three games against Armstrong Atlantic State University in a Peach Belt Conference series March 16-17.
The Falcons split a doubleheader with Pirates in the final two games March 17. Montevallo won the first game 12-9 before dropping the nightcap 22-6.
Senior Heath Peterson continued his tremendous week in the first game by hitting a pair of homeruns including his third grand slam in as many games. The Falcons trailed 9-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth and the Falcons plated 11 runs including seven coming from the bat of Peterson. In his first at bat in the inning he nailed a three-run homerun and then he came up again with the bases loaded and nailed a grand slam which gave the Falcons a 12-9 lead.
Peterson ended up going 3-for-7 from the plate with a double, two homeruns, eight RBI and two runs scored. Junior Will Fulmer had the most success at the plate as he went 8-for-9 over the two games including going 5-for-5 in game two. He had three doubles, five runs scored, a walk and an RBI.
Senior Chris Ross, a Pelham High School graduate, was 4-for-9 on the day with a double, two runs scored, two RBI and a walk. Freshman Cody White pinch hit in the second game and was 1-for-1 with a homerun and three RBI.
On the mound, freshman Mason Morris, a Thompson High School graduate, picked up the win in game one going 1.0 inning with no hits given up. Senior Wes Rich, a Pelham High School graduate, pitched the final inning with a strikeout and a walk to pick up his third save of the season. Morris also pitched three innings in the second game and never gave up a hit while striking out three and walking just one. Junior Kameron Heiser took the loss in the second game as he started and went 2.2 innings with four walks and nine runs given up including five earned.
