COLUMBIANA – A 9-year-old girl died in an accident Oct. 1 in which an all-terrain vehicle collided with a car.
Another child, a 12-year-old boy riding on the same ATV, was transported to Children’s Hospital.
According to Columbiana Police Chief Lamar Vick, the girl died either on the way to the hospital or after she arrived there.
Columbiana Police have not confirmed if the two children were related.
Vick said the boy is still in intensive care in the hospital.
The accident happened at the junction of Shelby County 25 and Old Highway 25.
Vick said it appears the children tried to cross the road and were struck by a four-door sedan traveling southbound.
Police are not releasing the names of the children because they were underage. Vick said an investigation is ongoing.
