Calera falls on the road at Holtville

The Calera High School football team fell 20-7 on the road at Holtville in a Class 4A, Region 3 contest Oct. 1.
Senior wide receiver Brandon Wells scored the only touchdown in the game for the Eagles.
Wells scored on a 9-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give the Eagles an early 7-0 lead. However, Holtville scored 20 unanswered points the rest of the way.
Wells led Calera (2-4 overall, 1-3 in Class 4A, Region 3) with 94 rushing yards on 13 carries. Wells completed 8-of-18 passes for 38 yards and also caught three passes for 34 yards.
Eugene Rodgers rushed for 84 yards on 15 carries.
Zack Reneau completed 8-of-12 passes for 103 yards with an interception. Cikia Shanks led the Eagles with 58 receiving yards on three receptions.
Sheldon Nixon led the Eagles with eight tackles. Calera hosts Lincoln in its homecoming game Oct. 8.
