Wildcats win Anniston softball tournament

The Shelby County High School softball team wrapped up a perfect weekend March 9-10, winning the championship of the 2012 Lady Bulldog Classic in Anniston to improve to 9-0 overall this season.

In the first elimation game against Lineville, the Aggies came out swinging with a two-run homer in the first inning. But after that, the Wildcats took care of business, eventually winning 7-1.

Courtney Shields scored twice and five others each scored once. Jessica Carden had a great game hitting, bouncing one off of the outfield fence and then had another caught on a diving catch by the center fielder. She finished with nine strikeouts and improved to 3-0 on the season as a starting pitcher.

In game two against Collinsville, the Wildcats jumped out quickly in the first inning on a Kaitlyn Paschall two-run homer. her 4th of the season. But they didn’t score again until the fourth inning when they finally poured it on, scoring six runs, including a three-run double by Carden.

Collinsville could only score once, making the final score 8-1.  Paschall finished with seven strikeouts, improving to 5-0 on the season as a starting pitcher.

The Wildcats won the championship game against West End, 10-0.

Brittany Lansford went 3-for-4, scoring three times. Victoria Adams, Carden, and Shields also scored twice each.

Paschall finished with two strikeouts, but ended up being a one-hitter because she had an outstanding defense behind her that took care of business. She improved to 6-0 on the season as a starting pitcher.
