CALERA – Calera Police Chief Sean Lemley addressed the rumors surrounding the fights and arrests at Calera High School on Feb. 29 during the City Council meeting March 5.

“The incident that took place at the high school involved four students, and arrests were made shortly after the incident,” Lemley said. “There are rumors going around, none of which could be substantiated.”

Lemley said that the individuals supposedly making threats of returning to the school and inciting violence were sitting in jail at the time the threats were made via Facebook.

He also said he assigned extra Calera Police assistance to the school until “things calm down.”

“We’re on top of it,” he said.

During the meeting, the City Council also announced March 23 as Weather Day at the Calera Publix. Resident can purchase weather radios and have them programmed to the correct frequency, Mayor Jon Graham said.

Additionally, a position on the planning and zoning board has recently opened, and the Council will appoint a new permanent member to fill the position and an alternate for the new board member.
