NORTH SHELBY — The Oak Mountain volleyball team ran its Class 6A, Area 10 record to a perfect 3-0 with a 25-21, 25-21, 25-20 sweep of Hoover High School Sept. 15 at Oak Mountain High School.

The win improved the Eagles’ overall record to 14-7-1.

“We’re happy with this right now,” Oak Mountain assistant coach Lance Woods said. “This was a big area win for us.”

Senior Chelsea Payne had a team-high 25 assists to go along with six digs, three kills and three service aces for the Eagles. Outside hitter Samantha Skinner added 13 kills, five digs, two service aces and two blocks.

Sophomore Emily Cosgrove registered six kills, and Sara Goodwin tallied nine digs and four kills in the victory.

Both teams came into the contest with unblemished records in Area 10 play. After winning the first two games of the match, Oak Mountain outscored the Buccaneers 15-10 down the stretch after being tied at 10 early to put the third game away.

The win puts the Eagles in the driver’s seat for the area championship.

“This gives us a leg up,” Woods said. “It wasn’t pretty, but we’ll take it.”

Hoover dropped to 2-1 in Class 6A, Area 10 play.

Mountain Brook tops Pelham

Dana Allen led the Panthers with 11 kills and three blocks in a 25-16, 21-25, 20-25, 23-25 loss to Mountain Brook.

Porsha Tolbert added 10 kills and 20 digs. Julie Bui recorded a team-high 25 digs and three service aces.

Sydney Days led Pelham (17-13) with 21 assists.

Calera sweeps Indian Springs

La’Jacqueline Morgan led the Eagles with 12 service aces in a 27-25, 28-26, 25-17 sweep of Indian Springs.

Kellie Rasmussen recorded a team-high 16 assists. A’Kia Harris finished with four blocks.
