MONTEVALLO — Several University of Montevallo students anxiously awaited the arrival of bid day Sept. 13 to find out which sorority they matched with during formal Panhellenic recruitment 2010.
Eighty women were placed in sororities to conclude the recruitment process, which began Sept. 9.
Each of the five chapters on campus received 14 new members this year, said Jenny Bell, the university’s coordinator of student life programs.
The sororities include Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Chi Omega, Delta Gamma and Phi Mu.
At the end of the weekend-long recruitment, each participant was matched with a sorority based on preference.
At 6 p.m. Sept. 13 all new members found out which sorority they were placed in and ran to that chapter, Bell said.
Each chapter has their own activities at their houses after that, she said.
This year Panhellenic placed more women in sororities than last year, which Student Life hopes indicates an increase in interest and popularity, Bell said.
