U.S. Marshals are investigating the death of a Bessemer man who reportedly shot himself at an Arkansas hotel Feb. 11.
Louis Elliott, 33, who was wanted by Shelby County authorities for failure to appear in court on charges of sexually soliciting a child by computer, died after U.S. Marshals attempted to arrest the man at the Inn Towne Lodge in Fort Smith, Ark., according to published reports.
After the suspect refused to allow U.S. Marshals officers into his hotel room, the officers apparently forced their way in and discovered Elliott had a handgun.
As officers were attempting to subdue the suspect and secure the weapon, Elliott shot himself once in the head, Marshals deputies said in published reports.
