Cities to hold Arbor Day celebrations

The cities of Montevallo, Alabaster and Chelsea will hold celebrations for Arbor Day on Feb. 25 in their respective communities.
The city of Montevallo’s 20th annual Arbor Day is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at the Orr Park Recreation Building. More than 1,300 trees and tree seedlings will be available for adoption by residents of Montevallo and surrounding towns and communities.
Drawings for large trees and planting supplies will be held. The day’s activities include a panel of urban and community tree experts to answer questions about trees. There will be demonstrations on proper tree planting, pruning and tree care.
Randy Glover from Centreville will be on hand with his pictures of the Cahaba Lilies. Members of the Montevallo Trail Committee will be present with pictures and maps of Montevallo’s Walking Trails. The artist Tim Tingle will host a walking tour of the tree carvings in Orr Park.

The city of Alabaster Parks and Recreation and the Alabaster Beautification Board will be hosting Alabaster’s Arbor Day celebration at 10 a.m. at Veterans Park.
This year’s event will include a tree giveaway with a variety of 170 five-gallon trees, more than 300 seedlings and much more for Alabaster residents to enjoy.

The city of Chelsea’s 13th annual Arbor Day celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Chelsea Recreation Park off Shelby County 39.
Drawings for three, five and seven-gallon trees and other implements will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Approximately 1,000 seedlings will be given away including, Redbud, Dogwood, Birch, Saw Tooth Oak, Chinese chestnut and Southern Magnolia. Information on trees and tree planting will be available during the celebration.
