Calera wrestlers top Leeds

The Calera High School wrestling team defeated Leeds 34-33 in high school wrestling action Jan. 31.
Six Eagles won individual matches against Leeds.
Hunter Alexander of Calera pinned William White of Leeds in 1:00 in the 106-pound match. Coby Mize of Calera pinned Ishmael Scruggs of Leeds in 1:00 in the 160-pound match.
Danny Diaz of Calera earned a 10-2 major decision over Dylan Cook of Leeds in the heavyweight match. Jaylin Washington of Calera won his 170-pound match by forfeit.
Vincent Smith of Calera won his 182-pound match by forfeit. Braxton Stokes of Calera won his 220-pound match by forfeit.
The Eagles dropped a match against Fultondale 66-12. Two Calera wrestlers won individual matches against Fultondale.
Diaz pinned Blaine Vickery of Fultondale in 3:00 in the heavyweight match. Stokes won his 220-pound match his forfeit.
Mize pinned Austin Shedd of Pleasant Grove in 3:00 in a separate 160-pound match.
