Elizabeth Jackson ‘Bette’ McKay
Childersburg
Elizabeth Jackson “Bette” McKay of Childersburg died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the age of 84 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
She was born May 25, 1924, to the late Leita Carr Jackson and Henry Erman Jackson of Ashland.
In 1944, she married James Knox McKay and moved to Childersburg, where she raised three sons and was an active member of the community and a devoted member of Childersburg First United Methodist Church.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Philip W. McKay.
Surviving are her sons, James E. McKay and wife, Frances, of Raleigh, N.C.; Michael J. McKay and wife, Vicky, of Chelsea; Kathy McKay, widow of Philip W. McKay of Germantown, Tenn.; six grandchildren, James P. McKay and wife, Jennifer, of Atlanta; Laura E. McKay of Apex, N.C.; Tara E. Bond and husband, Joseph, of Collierville, Tenn.; Leita McNeilly and husband, Ryan, of Murphressboro, Tenn.; Rachel L. McKay and James M. McKay, both of Chelsea; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Brae Bond, both of Collierville, Tenn.; a brother, Charles E. Jackson and wife, Martha, of Huntsville; and many nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church located at 600 Fourth Street in Childersburg from 2-3 p.m.
Funeral services will be held immediately afterward with the Rev. Ralph Barrow officiating.
Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery, located at 7447 Old Sylacauga Highway in Childersburg.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Childersburg or to a charity of your choice.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.
