Harpersville – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the Harpersville Police Department for matters concerning internal policies, procedures and practices.

According to the press release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the sheriff’s office received a request for assistance with the investigation from Harpersville Mayor Theoangelo Perkins on Dec. 13.

Members of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office have been observing  daily activities and administrative processes with the cooperation of the Harpersville Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing, and a report will be presented to Perkins upon completion.

Perkins confirmed that he did initiate the investigation.

“We had a personnel issue,” he said.

Perkins said he could not elaborate further because of the ongoing investigation.
