Truman Hughes

Truman Wayne Hughes, 64, passed away at home in the early morning on October 14, 2009, following a long-term battle with lung disease.
A lifelong resident of Montevallo, he was born Sept. 12, 1945.
In recent years, he lived next door to his parents, JD Hughes and Mary Loraine (Farr) Hughes, and helped care for them in their old age.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Joy) Hughes (nee Thomas); brother, Norman Hughes of Anniston; sister, Dot Lovejoy of Gardendale; son, Jason D. Hughes (by his first wife Mary Dawson Lawson); daughter-in-law, Quenby Hughes; and grandson, Reilly Hughes of Arlington, MA.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Pete Hughes.
Truman graduated from Montevallo High School in 1963. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving two years in the US Army from 1964 to 1966.
Not long after returning, he went to work at the local cement plant (currently Lafarge), where he worked for 30 years. He will be remembered as a loyal, caring person with a zest for life and a knack for fixing things._
Visitation will be held at Rockco Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009. Rev. Charles Statt will perform the funeral service in the chapel there at 11a.m. the following morning. The burial will take place at Ryan’s Cemetery, following. (Rockco Funeral Home, Montevallo directing)
