Cornerstone Christian School moved to 10-1 on the season and 4-0 in area play with a 4-3 win over in-county and area rival Coosa Valley Academy at CVA last Thursday night.

Heath Smith led the Chargers in a cold and misty game with 2 RBI on 3-for-4 at the plate.

Beau Beggs went 2-for-4 at the plate with 1 RBI and Chris Wills and Jeremy Walden each collected a hit.

Eighth grader Jon Ray pitched 7 innings, giving up 3 runs and striking out 7 batters. Ray also hit 2 Rebel batters.

Ray is now 5-0 on the season and has a save to his credit. He has pitched 24 innings and recorded 36 strikeouts, given up 8 walks and hit 4 batters. He has an earned run average of 1.33 on the year.

&uot;It was a really good baseball game,&uot; CCS head coach Tim Smith said. &uot;We scored 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on to win. They had a left-hander (Mitch Watley) pitching a really great game.&uot;

Watley went 7 innings for the Rebels, striking out 6 batters and giving up just 7 hits and 2 walks in addition to 4 runs. Casey Hall led CVA at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate with 2 RBI.

Brandon Guy was 2-for-4 and Zach Rutledge went 1-for-4. Jonathan Kress went 1-for-3 at the plate. CCS as a team was 7-for-28 at the plate while the Rebels went 7-for-30.

The two teams will meet again Thursday afternoon at Cornerstone.

The Lady Chargers picked up a win and got one loss last week, bringing their overall record to 5-3 on the season, 2-2 in area play.

Last Tuesday the Lady Chargers fell to Jefferson Christian Academy by a count of 7-4.

&uot;We played a good game, but we gave it up in the sixth inning,&uot; head coach Jay Adams said. &uot;We walked 2 and hit a batter and that basically gave them the lead.&uot;

JCA scored 4 runs in the sixth inning to get the win.

&uot;Our one bright spot was Kati Woods,&uot; Adams said.

Woods, a sixth grader, pitched 6 innings, striking out 3 batters and giving up 3 runs while allowing 4 walks.

The Lady Chargers’ win came Thursday at Coosa Valley Academy, 13-3.

Junior Celia Martin pitched 5 innings and allowed 3 runs on just 3 hits. Martin struck out 7 batters and allowed 1 walk. Martin helped herself at the plate, going 2-for-4 with 2 triples and 2 RBI.

Senior Chesley Hall went 3-for-4 and scored 3 runs in the win. She also recorded a stolen base. Senior Allison Youngblood went 3-for-4 with a double, scored 3 runs, had 2 RBI, 1 walk and 3 stolen bases.

The 2 teams will meet again Thursday at Cornerstone.

&uot;Thursday’s game with CVA is very important as far as the area goes,&uot; Adams said. &uot;With a win, we will be back in the hunt for the area and for the state playoffs.&uot;
