The Harpersville Dizzy Dean 13-14 year olds won the District 8 tournament in Columbiana July 2 to advance to the state tournament.

The team opened the tournament June 29 against Montevallo and won 12-4.

Harpersville faced Columbiana the next night and won 9-2, placing them in the tournament’s winners bracket.

Columbiana battled through the losers bracket to earn a rematch with Harpersville but suffered the same fate it met earlier in the tournament.

Harpersville again left victorious, defeating Columbiana 14-8.

Nathan Allen took the victory in Harpersville’s first game.

Zac Taylor pitched a complete game against Columbiana, striking out 20 batters.

Allen also started the championship game for Harpersville, tossing four innings before Taylor came on in relief.

The Dizzy Dean 13-14-year-olds state tournament was scheduled for July 10 in Northport. Results were unavailable at presstime
