A confrontation between friends turned deadly Saturday night in a wooded area in the Shelby community.

Investigators from the Shelby County Coroner’s Office pronounced David Michael Lunceford, 51, of Shelby, dead at the scene at about 11 p.m.

An acquaintance of Lunceford’s, Larry Carraway, 60, of Calera, was arrested and charged with murder Monday.

At presstime, Carraway was being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

On Saturday night, sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about a shooting at the intersection of county highways 47 and

42 in the Shelby community.

Deputies found Lunceford at about 11 p.m. suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso, according to sheriff’s reports.

Southeast Shelby Rescue and an Regional Paramedic Service ambulance responded to the scene.

According to sheriff’s reports, investigators determined that Lunceford was shot during an altercation with Carraway while camping on a remote section of Richard Porter Drive.

Capt. Chris Corbell of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said friends who were also camping at the site drove Lunceford to the intersection to meet paramedics
