Dora High School had won 25 straight regular season games and was ranked sixth in the state before taking a 47-14 thumping from host Chelsea last Friday night.

&uot;It was a great win versus a very good ranked football team,&uot; Chelsea coach Watt Parker said. &uot;It was a total team effort.&uot;

The Hornets had jumped out to a surprising 33-14 lead by halftime, thanks to big plays by the defense and an 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Juan Grier.

Chelsea forced turnovers and kept the Dora offense in check, shutting out the Bulldogs in the second half.

&uot;Daniel Dempsey, Gary Winslett and Matt Ling are leading our defense in the right direction,&uot; Parker said.

Dempsey led Chelsea with 11 tackles, while Winslett recorded eight stops, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Grier had a monster night on the ground, rushing for 171 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. His 59-yarder in the second quarter seemingly put the game out of Dora’s reach for good.

Chelsea quarterback Casey Morris also broke the 100-yard plateau on just nine carries. His 139-yard performance included two touchdowns and a long gain of 63 yards.

&uot;The offensive line is playing their best right now,&uot; Parker said.

Dempsey also carried 10 times for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Chelsea (4-2) improved to 2-2 in Class 4A, Region 5 with the win.

The Hornets will travel to face Holt (3-3) next week
