NORTH SHELBY – An Oak Mountain Elementary kindergarten student suffered “fairly substantial injuries” Nov. 30 when a car hit her as she crossed the street to the bus stop, Shelby County Schools spokeswoman Cindy Warner said.
“They are non life-threatening injuries,” and the girl should recover, Warner added Dec. 1.
The girl’s name has not been released.
The incident occurred about 7 a.m. in the Eagle Ridge neighborhood, Warner said.
As the bus approached the bus stop, the girl ran into the street and toward the bus stop when a car hit her, Warner said.
“The bus was not at the stop yet,” Warner said. “It was still coming down the road.”
Warner said some students saw the car hit the girl, and counselors were available at the school Nov. 30.
