Extra Points: The Yellow Jackets improved on their one win in 2003 but three wins won’t get you into the playoffs. The results are misleading in that Vincent only missed the playoffs by a &uot;sack race&uot; tiebreaker, but until the Yellow Jacket’s offense can throw the ball down field, its defense can only carry them so far.

Extra Points: Chelsea took down two top ten teams this season, ending Dora’s 25-game regular season win streak with a 47-14 thumping and knocking off North Jackson in the playoffs. The Hornets also produced one of the county’s leading rushers for the second straight year in tailback Juan Grier.

Extra Points: Head coach Jim King will sit and wonder what could have happened had the Bulldogs beaten Holt in week six, but Montevallo has a lot of promise heading into the 2005 season. The Bulldogs finished a solid 5-5 this season and the return of Shelby County’s leading rusher, A.J. Ward, has Bulldog fans anxious for next season.

Extra Points: After finishing the 2003 season as Class 5A state champs, the Lions failed to meet expectations, falling in the first round of the playoffs. Charles Hoke and Larry Hedden were two of the county’s leading receivers but the lack of a consistent running game kept the Lions from repeating as state champs.

Extra Points: The Eagles are a talented group but, as first year head coach Jerry Hood found out, playing in the state’s toughest region is no walk in the park. Oak Mountain lost to three playoff teams in Region 6 by seven points or less and that has Hood seeing positive things for the 2005 season.

Extra Points: Sammy Queen was relieved of his coaching duties after the Panthers struggled in the toughest region in the state. Pelham rallied to win the last two games after losing a player in a fatal car accident and after 18 players were suspended for disciplinary reasons.

Head coach Vince DiLorenzo has his program on the right track after making the 6A quarterfinals this season but until the Jags are able to top cross-town rival Hoover, the monkey will remain on their backs.

Cornerstone could not overcome a stingy Lowndes defense in the playoffs but a win over Central Christian in week nine could have given the Chargers all the momentum they needed heading into the postseason.

Extra Points: Head coach Dewayne Kervin had his Raiders back in the championship game but a tough Southern team proved too much for Shelby Academy. The Raiders were solid offensively, but it was the defense that led the way as Shelby Academy shut out eight of its 13 opponents.
