GIRLS BASKETBALL

Briarwood 72, Chilton County 21: Andee Matthews led all Lions with 19 points as Briarwood crushed Chilton County. Dandi Ammons had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds while eighth-grader Lauren Parks recorded her first double-digit scoring effort of the year with 13 points.

Vestavia 53, Briarwood 21: Dandi Ammons led the Lions with nine points as Briarwood fell to the 6A Rebels.

Briarwood 57, Montevallo 48: Dandi Ammons had 14 points and eight rebounds as the Lions took care of the Bulldogs. Andee Matthews had 12 points in the winning effort. Briarwood (6-1) travels to Oxford Friday.

Calera 67, Pelham 66: Shanavia Dowdell became a one-girl Panther wrecking crew as the Eagles downed Pelham in dramatic fashion. Dowdell, who recorded a triple-double with 33 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks, secured Calera’s win with a late lay-up and steal. Laquarius Wilson also had a double-double for the Eagles with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Panthers were led by Jennifer Weems’ 29 points while Carla Jennings added a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Weems is averaging 19 points per game, leads the team in rebounds and total points while Jennings is averaging 11 points per game and shooting 50 percent from the field.

Chelsea 34, Shelby County 33: Lindi Thompson sank a free throw in the final seconds and recorded a double-double as the Hornets downed the Wildcats. Thompson finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Charlie Bowman added 13 points for the Hornets. Kayla Williams was the leading scorer for the Wildcats with 15 points.

Coosa Valley 85, Cornerstone Christian 14: The Rebels opened the game on a 38-0 run before the Chargers scored their first point. Erica Hurst helped open the lead with 12 first quarter points while Kim Rutledge led all Rebels with 23 points and 10 steals. The Chargers host Shelby Academy Friday before traveling to Warrior Monday.

Kingwood Christian 64, Autauga 34: Hannah Phillips led the Lions to victory with 25 points while Lori Hereford finished with 20 points. Kingwood (2-1) was forced to play without starter Karri Dixon, who missed the game due to a death in the family.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Calera 80, Pelham 64: Terry Green led the Eagles (4-0) to victory with a team-high 19 points while Vanderbilt signee George Drake added 16 points. Trey Russell had 12 points while Paul Delbridge and Kyle Nichols added 10 points apiece. Tim Ansley and Michael Adams both had big nights for the Panthers with 22 and 20 points respectively.

Briarwood 44, Northridge 39: Will Cunningham paced the Lions to victory with 15 points as Briarwood (4-1) downed Northridge. Blake Edwards added 12 points and Charles Hoke pulled down 15 rebounds for the Lions.

Chilton County 67, Briarwood 58: University of Alabama signee Charles Hoke recorded a double-double as the Lions fell to Chilton County. Hoke finished with huge numbers, scoring 37 points and pulling down 21 rebounds while Larry Hedden finished with seven rebounds and 10 assists.

Thompson 63, Chelsea 31: Michael Hall paced the Warriors to victory with 15 points and five assists as Thompson (3-4) downed the Class 4A Hornets. Hall is averaging 11 points and 3.5 assists per game. James Ward led the Hornets with nine points. Ward is shooting 33 percent from the arc and 50 percent from the field on the season.

Pelham 56, Parkway Christian 54: Michael Adams scored 23 points as the Panthers came back from an early deficit to down Parkway. Tim Ansley also had 16 points in the Pelham win.

Midfield 65, Indian Springs 30: John Bains scored 10 points as Indian Springs fell to the Patriots. Indian Springs coach Greg Van Horn said his team’s size was not enough to keep up with Midfield. &uot;After playing close the first half, their size and quickness took us out of our game plan to play slow,&uot; Van Horn said. Nick Pihakis also had nine points in the loss.

Altamont 39, Indian Springs 34: John Bains led Indian Springs with 15 points as Springs fell in a close one. Wes Van Horn added six points, four rebounds and three assists in the loss. &uot;We played great defense and had a chance at the end to pull out a win,&uot; Indian Springs head coach Greg Van Horn said. &uot;As you know, Altamont is a very talented team.&uot;

Shelby County 73, Chelsea 53: Cortez Cotton’s 24 points proved to be the difference in the game as the Wildcats downed the Hornets. Wade Waldrop’s Hornets were led by Patrick Smith with 21 points
