David Clyburn cleared six feet, six inches to claim the state high jump crown at the AHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend, separating himself from his nearest competitor by two inches.

Clyburn’s jump gave Pelham High School 10 team points, enough to help the Panthers tie for 10th place overall in 6A team competition.

Spain Park’s boys finished in ninth place in 6A, while Briarwood Christian finished ninth in 5A team rankings.

John Scruggs and Riley White finished fifth and sixth in the 55m hurdles for Briarwood. Scruggs also took fourth in the pole vault with a vault of 10-6.

Spain Park’s Chris Spear won the vault in 6A, clearing 15-6. Teammate Patrick Wells finished fourth with a vault of 13 feet.

Oak Mountain claimed fourth place in 6A girls team competition, finishing fourth in the 4×400 relay and taking fifth in the 4×800.

Raley Burnett placed third in the 400m dash and finished fifth in the 800m for the Eagles.

Oak Mountain’s Hannah Farmer placed third in the girls high jump, clearing five feet.

Spain Park finished tied for 12th in team competition in 6A.

In girls 5A team rankings, Briarwood finished 13th behind Shelby County High School, in 12th place
