Briarwood loses playoff opener

Briarwood Christian just couldn’t seem to get a big hit at some key points early in the game and suffered through five costly errors in a season-ending loss to Monroe County last week.
The Lions fell to their visiting Class 5A opponents, 10-8, in the first round of the AHSAA playoffs.
&uot;Monroe County played a perfect game,&uot; Briarwood coach Lee Hall said. &uot;They got big hits when they needed them and they didn’t make any errors. We did the total opposite.&uot;
The Lions managed to steal nine bases but failed to get hits several times with runners in scoring position.
Kevin Cope had two doubles and an RBI for Briarwood, while Dugan Nelson had a triple and knocked in three.

Briarwood finished the year with a school-record 24 wins
and just 12 losses on the way to the 5A, Area 8 championship
