LUCY BAILEY

Mother of three

Lucy Bailey, 85, of Calera died Sunday, June 5, 2005, in a local nursing home. She was born Oct. 24, 1919, and was a member of Calera Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl J. Bailey, and her son, Jack Bailey.

She is survived by her sons, Charles Bailey and Dan Bailey; her daughter-in-law, Donna Bailey; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her brother, Thomas Posey; and her sister, Elsie Lehman.

Graveside service will be today, June 8 at 11 a.m. at Shelby Memory Gardens, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

ROSIKA BARNES

Alabaster resident

Rosika Barnes, 68, of Alabaster died Sunday, June 5, 2005, in a local nursing home. She was born March 15, 1937, in Germany.

She is survived by her children, Fred Barnes and Maria Wagner; and her grandson, Adam Wideman.

Graveside service was June 7 at 9 a.m. at Pinelawn Gardens, Bolton-Leltow Funeral Home directing.

DAVID JEFFERSON BUTLER

Alabaster resident

David Jefferson Butler, 70, of Alabaster died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, in Alabaster.

Service was June 2 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Alabaster, the Rev. Mark Davenport presiding. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery at Elliottsville.

JOHNNIE MAE CALHOUN

Columbiana resident

Johnnie Mae Calhoun, 63, of Columbiana died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 14, 1941, in Cedar Springs, Ga.

She is survived by her husband, Wendell Calhoun; her children, Wendell Richard Calhoun, Teressa D. Calhoun (Randy) Morris and John Marcus Calhoun; her grandchildren, Thomas Randall Morris Jr., Timothy Aaron Morris, Tasha Renee Morris and Harley Wayne Morris; and a host of family members.

Service was June 3 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel, Brother Rodgers presiding. Burial followed in Old Shelby Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow directing.

LUTHER M. GARRISON SR.

Columbiana resident

Luther M. Garrison Sr., 67, of Columbiana died Saturday, June 4, 2005, at a hospital. He was born May 22, 1938, in Birmingham and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a longtime employee of Piggly Wiggly of both Columbiana and Montevallo. He was also active in community service.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Harolyn Garrison; three daughters, Veronica (Michael) Lee, Jennifer (Rickey) Lambert and Stacy (Lee) Carden; two sons, Luther Garrison Jr. and Shane Garrison; four sisters, Peggy Pate, Doby (Bill) Hanks, Cherl Nabors and Libby Battles; one brother, Robert Stanley; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Service was June 7 at 2 p.m. at Bolton-Letlow Chapel, the Revs. Dan Reeves and Daryl Fuller presiding. Burial followed in Pinelawn Gardens, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

ELOISE P. JOINER

Columbiana resident

Eloise F. Joiner, 77, of Columbiana died Thursday, June 2, 2005, in a local nursing home. She was born Nov. 9, 1927, in Harpersville and was a member of New Bethesda Baptist Church. She had retired from Valley Mills as a lab technician. She is preceded in death by her husband, Otha W. Joiner.

She is survived by her children, Doyle Joiner, Kyle (Linda) Joiner, Phyllis (Dan) Herncall, Roger (Sheila) Joiner and Jason (Sheila) Joiner; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other family and friends.

Service was June 4 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel, the Rev. Roland Foster presiding. Burial followed in Pinelawn Gardens, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

SIBYL STEPHENSON

Former first lady of Wilsonville

Sibyl Stephenson, 87, of Wilsonville died Saturday, June 4, 2005, at a local nursing home. She was a lifelong resident of Alabama who was born April 12, 1918, in Marshall County, the fifth child of John Robert Strange and Evie Eldora Parrish. She married her school sweetheart, Robert Gordon Stephenson, on Dec. 10, 1933, and moved to Wilsonville in 1942. She and her husband became employees of Dupont in Childersburg where they prepared gunpowder for both American and Russian guns during World War II. She has been an active member of Wilsonville United Methodist Church for 63 years, having served as a member of the WSCS, the church choir and a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. Her husband preceded her in death in 1988 after 55 years of marriage and serving two terms as mayor of Wilsonville. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Felicia, who died from spinal meningitis at age 7.

She is survived by her children, Charles Stephenson of San Antonio, Texas, Yvonne Carter of Valdosta, Ga., Sharon Walker of Clanton and Karen Ingram of Birmingham; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Service was June 7 at 11 a.m. at Wilsonville United Methodist Church, the Rev. Warren Wilder presiding. Burial followed in Wilsonville City Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing. The family requests memorial donations be made to the church.
