Hornets edge Vincent in tournament opener

The Chelsea High School boys’ basketball team overcame a three-point deficit in the final minute to defeat Vincent 51-50 in its opening game of its Thanksgiving tournament Nov. 21.

With the Hornets trailing by three points with 45 seconds, Jake Ganus was fouled on a 3-pointer that found the bottom of the net. Ganus completed the 4-point play to put Chelsea up 49-48.

Dontravious Moon scored a layup to give Vincent the lead, 50-49.  Julius McCall was then fouled while advancing the ball against Vincent’s press, and made both ends of the one-and-one to give Chelsea a 51-50 lead with 10 seconds left. Vincent’s final shot was rebounded by Ganus to secure the win.

Ganus led the Hornets (1-2) with 17 points and 10 in the victory. D.D. Washington added 14 points. McCall finished with nine points.

Moon led Vincent (0-1) with a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds. Tyler Williams added 14 points and four assists.
