Thompson Middle School is facing more than $2,000 in damages, after cafeteria windows were broken recently for the third time since the summer began.

Students, who began school last Wednesday, were faced with the damages.

School administrators said that the windows would not be replaced for the beginning of school.

Nicke Gaspers, principal at Thompson, said the summer vandalization has amounted to almost $10,000 in cost, needed to replace the large double-pane windows inside the school’s lunchroom, which will be covered with plywood for three to five weeks until the new window is installed.

&uot;The damage they’re doing is taking away from the school,&uot; he said. &uot;This is like money we are throwing away.&uot;

Thompson’s cafeteria window were broken June 29 and July 6, and Melissa Youngblood, assistant principal at Thompson, said the school had just replaced the windows when they were broken again on Thursday night.

Youngblood said school administrators have asked the Alabaster Police Department to more closely monitor the campus. She added that school faculty members have been driving through the campus frequently.

Gaspers said the school has images on a surveillance camera of three children on the Thompson campus one of the nights the window was broken, but he said the images were unclear.

Gaspers said they are considering offering reward money for information in the case
