The Pelham Panthers could not withstand the onslaught of Tuscaloosa County’s high-powered offense Friday night, losing to the Wildcats, 32-6, in the first round of the AHSAA 6A playoffs.
Tuscaloosa extended its unbeaten streak to 11 games with the win, capitalizing on three turnovers by the Panthers to take a 26-point lead at the end of the second quarter.
The Panthers’ only score came off a three-yard pass from Pelham quarterback Josh Thomason to Steven Johnson in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers finish the season with a overall record of 6-5 while the Wildcats host Pell City in the second round of the playoffs Friday night.
The Vincent Yellow Jackets sat in prime position to win their first round playoff game against Luverne Friday night, trailing the Tigers, 23-20, at halftime.
Vincent was unable to rally, however, as Lions’ quarterback Ryan Brown scrambled for two second half scores on runs of 1 and 25 yards for a 37-20 victory, eliminating the Jackets from the AHSAA 2A playoffs in the process.
Jackets’ quarterback Steven Adams connected with
Tavoris Threatt for three touchdown passes in the losing effort.
Vincent finishes the season with a 6-5 overall record while Luverne moved to 9-2 on the season headed into the second round
